Wellington High School’s athlete of the month for September is Trevor Garfield. Trevor was one of the key components to the varsity golf team’s success this fall. The junior has enjoyed two years as a golfer for the Dukes and each of those years Trevor was a letter winner. Last year in his first year on the team Trevor won the end of the year two man scramble with his brother Clay. He has perfected his game this season, finishing consistently with scores in the low 40’s and even shooting in the 30’s multiple times. After being one of the Duke’s top golfers all year, Trevor played extremely well in the Patriot Athletic Conference tournament at Medina Country Club. There he finished in 6th place after 18 holes. This placing was good enough to get him a spot on the first team All Patriot Athletic Conference.
Trevor spends much of his summers and free time swinging a golf club. He also enjoys hanging out with his friends and hunting for all kinds of critters. His favorite animal to hunt is squirrel because he gets to take his dog Cooter with him. When he hunts deer he prefers to use his bow. The thing Trevor likes most about Wellington High School is, “getting to see my friends, playing on the golf team, and leaving study hall to visit his favorite staff member, Mr. Bowman.”
In the future, Trevor plans to go to college for business at ATI. He wants to continue his success on the golf course and knows that big things are expected out of the Dukes’ golf team next year. He also hopes to one day be as good at golf as his idol, Dylan Barris.
