The Dukes hosted Buckeye last night January 30th in what was the battle of the top 2 teams in the stars division. The Dukes had a great start in the first quarter going ahead early. Buckeye casually chipped away at the lead until late in the fourth when a 3 pointer by a Buck put them up by 1 point. The Dukes saw their lead evaporate but did not panic. Instead of getting down on themselves the boys stuck to their plan and fought through adversity. They fell behind by a basket but clutch free throws made by Max Joppeck to tie the game gave the Dukes the momentum. With the game tied, Colton Schmidt came to the rescue in similar fashion to his late layup heroics against John Hay in the Gossman Classic. Colton pounced on a lazy pass from a Buckeye player and stole the ball breaking away for an easy layup. This put the Dukes up for good. The game was over at 51-49 in favor of the Dukes.
With the lead in the division standings each game will become more meaningful for the Dukes. They play again at home Friday February 2nd against Brookside. Wear your pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
