Dukes News · Junior High Girls Basketball Opens Season

The Lady Dukes 7th and 8th grade basketball teams played their first games of the season last night at home against Clearview. This would be the first and last matchup between Clearview and the Dukes for basketball this season. The 7th graders were anxious to get on the court sporting their new jerseys and warm ups. From the tip the young Lady Dukes stayed a step ahead of Clearview, sprinting out to an early 11-0 lead.  After the 1st quarter the Lady Dukes continued to pull away from Clearview, A true sign of a solid team through all players and lineups. After the game’s 24 minutes, the Lady Dukes had clinched their first win, continuing their winning ways after a PAC championship volleyball season.

The 8th grade game was much closer and fans enjoyed a tight game to the finish. Each team scored back and forth keeping the game tied. After four quarters the tie was not able to be broken and the game headed to overtime. Unfortunately the Lady Dukes 8th grade team fell short by just one point giving them their first loss of the season.

The girls will play again Thursday at Columbia.
